Non-NSF Funded Travel Grant

(All students are eligible)

Application Deadline

Jan. 10, 2019

Detailed Information

HPCA 2019 is now offering travel support to encourage student participation at the conference through the generous support of IEEE TCCA and others. The conference will be held February 16 - 20 in Washington D.C, USA. All students are eligible to apply. Students enrolled at US institutions are also eligible to apply for NSF-funded student travel grants (see below)

Selection of applicants for funding and the degree of funding will be dependent on several factors. Priority will be granted to:

  • Students presenting research at the conference (and related workshops)
  • Students who belong to underrepresented groups (including women)
  • Students from small institutions and universities that do not have a strong tradition in the HPCA research domain
  • Students who do not have support from their advisors through other grants

Please note that students do not necessarily have to be presenting work to receive a travel grant. Additionally, funding is not guaranteed and requires attendance at HPCA.

Students may apply for funds covering conference registration, airfare, ground transportation, lodging, and meals. However, the source of the funds granted to a student may restrict how the funds may be used. In order to be reimbursed, the student will have to present original receipts and fill out a travel expense claim form (which will be provided at a later time).

Please send your travel grant application by the deadline via email to the Student Travel Grant Chair, Professor Sudeep Pasricha (sudeep@colostate.edu). Use the subject line "HPCA 2019 Student Travel Grant Application."

The travel grant application (a single consolidated pdf file) should include:

  • A cover page with the name of the student, contact information, and name of the student's institution and advisor, as well as details of membership in an underrepresented group (including women) if applicable
  • A writeup stating the reason for attending HPCA and a description of research interests. This should include information about whether the student is presenting work at the conference (or related workshops).
  • A letter from the student's advisor confirming the student's eligibility and recommending the student to attend HPCA
  • A resume (including an IEEE student membership number if available); no more than 4 pages
  • An estimate of conference-related expenses, including information about other sources of funding available for the conference travel

Additional funds may be requested to help offset the costs for a companion care-provider. Specifically, students with physical disabilities necessitating a companion or students who are parents of an infant less than two years old who cannot travel without the infant and a care-provider for the infant may request additional funds in their applications.

After the conclusion of the symposia, each awarded student must complete and return appropriate travel reimbursement forms and include original receipts. This form will be provided later to you. You must also provide a one-page report on your impressions of the symposium that you attended. A summary of your impressions will be provided to the funding agencies.

NSF Funded Travel Grant

(Only US students are eligible)

Application Deadline

Jan. 10, 2019

Detailed Information

Students who are currently enrolled in U.S. universities are eligible to apply for financial support from our NSF grant to travel to and attend the CGO/HPCA/PPoPP 2019 symposia to be held February 16 - 20 in Washington D.C, USA. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to apply.

Note: if you are eligible for both the non-NSF funded and NSF-funded travel grants, you can apply to both opportunities. In that case just send a single application following the instructions above for the non-NSF funded travel grant application, but additionally on the cover page of your application mention “Applying for both NSF-funded and non-NSF funded student travel grants”.

Each symposium will select students from its eligible applicants to receive travel support. Selection will be based on need and the degree of participation. Committee members and presenters of papers or posters will have priority. Since the total grant is a fixed amount, the amount that can be awarded to each student will depend on the number of awardees, and will cover only a portion of your expenses. Reimbursable expenses include conference registration, airfare, ground transportation, and lodging only.
